As you may recall, we had a big list of projects to complete at the house this summer, and Alumni House Manager, Andy Gildersleeve ’68 has been busy working through that list. The boiler replacement was one such project, and we’re happy to be able to check it off our list.
Other summer projects that we have completed include:
- First floor updates: Refinished wood floors in the Great Hall, Dining and Card rooms. All rooms were patched and painted. All windowsills were refinished. Draperies were cleaned.
- Damaged furniture was replaced, including new dining room tables and benches.
- All entry doors and locks were repaired or replaced.
- Wood stairs were cleaned and refinished.
- Bedrooms were a major focus — furniture was removed. First and second floor rooms were patched and painted.
- Sconce lighting fixtures were replaced.
- Outside stone porches were power washed and cleaned. Outside lighting was replaced as needed.
- We added another outside camera to increase security.
- We added stones to the parking lot and numbered the parking spaces.
- We repaired and seeded the front lawn. We also had our front trees trimmed.
- We’re happy to share that we just had a new boiler and water softener installed. Now, heat and hot water will always be available for our active members. However, since the insurance didn’t cover the steep cost ($77,000), we financed the project through M&T Bank and are paying a hefty monthly fee of $1,238. Any donations to help offset this cost would be greatly appreciated.
It has been a busy few months whipping the house into shape. We will soon complete the remaining projects, including cleaning and polishing the terrazzo floors, deep cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen, replacing damaged doors, and installing a new lock system.
We want to give a special shoutout to the 16 brothers who worked up a sweat putting in a 3-day work weekend at the House in September. Thank you to all who took the time out of their schedule to make this happen!
