Dear Brothers:
As you will see in the enclosed issue of the Penn State Sig, we had to invest in a new boiler and do repairs to get the chapter house back in condition, while also paying our ongoing operating costs of Insurance, Taxes, Utilities, etc. We are renting parking spots right now and we will rent rooms over the summer to help us get closer to break even for the year. That said, a 93-year-old house needs constant attention, upkeep, and repairs. We are announcing a new way for you to contribute and leave your mark at our house.
Paving the way for Alpha Chi
On May 27, 2021, Alpha Chi will celebrate 130 continuous years at Penn State. Over that span of time, the Chapter initiated 1,972 brothers who have gone on to contribute to the Commonwealth and our Country. Lifelong friendships and leaders in all walks of life have emerged from the halls of the Alpha Chi Chapter. Alpha Chi has produced 17 Peterson Awards, 12 Significant Sigs, and five Order of Constantine members. The Chapter had two other locations before moving to its current location in September 1972. We will celebrate 50 years calling 400 E. Prospect Ave our home in 2022.
To commemorate these events and advance Alpha Chi’s future, your Alumni Association is launching the “Paving the Way for Alpha Chi” campaign. Our goal is to raise at least $400,000 by April 20, 2025. Funds raised will be directed to reduce the annual operating costs of the chapter by paying off the outstanding mortgage, paying for the new boiler system, replacing the exterior doors, making needed improvements to the basement level, and building a reserve for future maintenance needs.
You and your pledge class have the opportunity to be permanently recognized for supporting Alpha Chi. You can have a personalized, commemorative brick installed in the Alumni Courtyard that faces Prospect Ave and is located outside the Great Hall and the Library. For those of you who have attended a golf outing, it is where the award presentations are held.
Commemorative bricks come in three sizes, as follows:
400 Club: 8×4 brick for $300 ($25/mo.)
Founders Society: 8×8 brick for $600 ($50/mo.)
White Cross Society: 12×12 brick and composite picture in the chapter house for $1,200 ($100/mo.)
